Jason Curtis, Vice President of Operations at Portland Yacht Services, brings over 42 years of hands-on experience in the marine and mechanical industries. His professional journey began at just 13 years old when he was lake testing boats at White Rock Outboard. Since then, he has built an impressive resume spanning leadership, technical training, and service management, complemented by education in machine tools, automotive technology, accounting, and business. A U.S. Air Force veteran and top graduate in Electro-Environmental Systems, Jason also holds extensive training in marine engine systems from leading brands like Suzuki, Yamaha, Mercury, and Johnson/Evinrude.
His passion for the marine industry stems from a lifelong connection to the water and a love for the mechanical challenge. Jason's early memories include building wooden boats with his dad, a tradition that evolved into a lifetime of personal and professional boat projects. As he worked his way through every level of marine service—from technician to VP—he’s remained committed to excellence, leading with both experience and innovation. Since joining Portland Yacht Services in 1998, Jason has helped grow and manage operations across all departments, overseeing everything from the 139-slip marina to major events like the Maine Boatbuilders Show.
Outside of work, Jason is a dedicated bass fisherman and snowmobile racer. He and his son Joe have been fishing tournaments together since 2010, and he thrives on both the competition and the preparation. That same focus applies to his advice for boaters: “Prepare, prepare, prepare”—because the fewer problems on the water, the better the experience.
Jason’s leadership style is all about teamwork and problem-solving. He thrives in a dynamic environment where the crew brings diverse ideas to the table, and he relishes the moments when someone says, “it can’t be done”—because that’s when he’s most driven to find a solution. For Jason, the best part of the job is the challenge itself and the team that turns those challenges into wins.
