Sail Maine Party Lures Antigua Classic Participants to Maine
Falmouth Harbor, Antigua - April 20, 2008 - As owners, crew and yachting media from all over the world gathered in Antigua for the 21st Annual Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, Portland Yacht Services (PYS) along with several other Maine based marine service groups, hosted what will also become an annual event - The Sail Maine Party.

The brain child of PYS owner Phin Sprague, Jr., the Party, held at the Last Lemming in Falmouth Harbor, not only promoted Maine as a sailing destination, but also the services available in the State for yachtsmen — and of course, Maine's signature delicacy — lobster.

The promoted services, all provided by PYS, include maintenance, repairs, boat & motor sales, rigging, moorings, dockage and storage. All Party guests were entered in the draw for "A Passport to the Coast of Maine" which offered two nights free dockage or mooring (worth approx $3000) at one of ten participating sponsors locations.

The Passport to Maine sponsors included:

  • Portland Yacht Services
  • Hinkley Yacht Services
  • Brooklin Boatyard
  • Wayfarer Marine Rockport Marine
  • Lyman Morse (at Tenants Harbor location)
  • Hodgdon Yachts
  • Boothbay Harbor Shipyard
  • Robin Hood Marine Center
  • Port Clyde Lobster
The 21st Annual Maine Boatbuilders Show Opened March 14
Portland, Maine - March 14, 2008 - The Portland Company Complex hosted the 21st Annual Maine Boatbuilders Show, March 14, 15, and 16, 2008 at 58 Fore Street, Portland, Maine.

This year's event featured over 225 exhibitors, including the finest fiberglass, wood and composite boatbuilders in the Northeast, Canada and the west coast. All types of boats, sailboats, powerboats, canoes, kayaks and rowing boats will be on display.

In addition to boatbuilders, a variety of related businesses, such as yacht brokers, engine manufacturers, marine-related services and boatbuilding schools also participated in the exhibit.

"The event brought together boatbuilders and the public in an informal atmosphere." said show sponsor Phin Sprague, Jr., "And, because there were no dealers at the show, our exhibitors spent time talking with people about their designs, boat product lines and new ideas in the industry."

The three-day event also included:

  • A lecture series covering topics of interest to builders and boat owners alike
  • The Maine Maritime Academy Alumnae auction of marine equipment run by the Casco Bay Chapter for their scholarship fund
  • The Maine Narrow Gauge Museum's 2-foot collection
This show represented a true niche in the boating community not found anywhere else. Dick Pulsifer, a builder and regular exhibitor said, "It is more than a boatshow. With the sheer number of builders attending, this show has become an effective stop for individuals who have problems to solve, boats to build or dream about."
