The Lion's Whelp Project is the culmination of efforts of everyone at Portland Yacht Services. It is rare that we take on so extensive a project as the construction from bare hull to transoceanic cruiser, but the circumstances presented themselves so perfectly that we couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Main Saloon   June, 2006 -- Pictures of the cruise south and details of the New Year's cruise, Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, and the trip back up to Maine.

December, 2005 -- Maine to Antigua voyage details. The Whelp hove-to 2 days from Bermuda and listened to a singlehander get rescued by the Coast Guard. Created a specifications page for the Whelp.
October, 2005 -- Antigua Classics, Eggemoggin Reach, & the Shipyard Cup all posted. Also a bit more on summer cruises. Phin took the Whelp out last week in Portland harbor in 50kt breezes to try out the hunter-orange storm sails. The riggers onboard all got sick!
January, 2005 -- Putting up some overlooked logbook correspondence and egging the crew to give me some more details of the New Year's Caribbean blast!

"We hope that this newest Lion's Whelp will safely carry her crew to their desired destinations, as did those former Lyon's Whelps, starting with our ancestral ship which brought our family to America in 1629, and followed by many namesakes." Full text of speech and launching details here.
Are you looking for information on the vessel that brought your ancestors over the the new world in the early 1600's? We are, too! This vessel's namesake Lyon's Whelp brought over our family and we are going to make this site a depository for all the information we have. Visit the 1629 site, and please contact us if you can help. Thank you.
Please e-mail me, Mak Sprague, to be placed on an e-mail list and receive notice when new phases of the building of this vessel are entered or other major changes on the site have been made.
