Giving Back to the Community

This is just the latest manifestation of our commitment to supporting the local boating community, and especially the next generation of sailors:

Portland Yacht Services is proud to support our good neighbor, SailMaine, and its Casco Bay Community Boating Center. SailMaine is a 501 (c) 3 not for profit organization formed to promote and support sailing in the state of Maine. At the Boating Center, six High School Varsity sailing teams are coached for competition throughout the country. Each summer, hundreds of young sailors learn the ropes in Frostys, Optis, 420s, and Ynglings in three sessions of Junior instruction. SailMaine also has courses for adults of every level of experience. Specially challenged sailors have an opportunity to set sail in the Maine Special Olympics Program that SailMaine hosts. A new educational cruising course is in the works for Summer 2008.

SailMaine is an energetic advocate for exploring the Maine coast under sail. PYS is glad to help them bring new people to the sport. Visit their website at sailmaine.org for more information on their programs.
We support Portland's Arts & Technology High School
We consistently hire high school students with an interest in attending the US Maritime Academies.
Each March for over 20 years, PYS has undertaken the major effort of producing and hosting the Maine Boatbuilders Show, a gathering of the finest custom and semi-custom builders, suppliers and others who are serious about boats. And the week before the Boat Show each year, we host the Portland Flower Show. Over these two weekends, we host over three hundred businesses and thirty thousand individuals.
